A simplified splitter fln construction is designed for fitting on reactor fuel elements with helical heat transfer fins. The splitter fins are formed on a cylindrical member by extrusion thereof, and the cylindrical member is in part cut away between the fins to leave braces between the fins at intervals. The splitter fin body is then fitted onto a fuel element and held in place by means of slots and grooves in the heat transfer fins. (D.L.C.)
