Polyvinyl alcohol suspended in carbon tetrachloride and in chloroform in the presence of Cl gas was chlorinated by gamma rays. The Cl content in chlorinated polyvinyl alcohol decreased with the concentration of Cl, radiation dose, and the reaction temperature. The G-values were 2 x 10/sup 5/ in chloroform and 600 in carbon tetrachloride. The mobility of Cl atoms in chlorinated polyvinyl alcohol was studied with aniline and sodium ethylate. (OID)
