A neutron-capture gamma ray logging system is designed with means for analyzing the gamma ray spectrum so that only one pulse height peak is recorded for each gamma ray energy. The system includes a neutron source, a shielded detector for the neutron-capture gamma rays, and a coincidence system with associated detectors surrounding the shielded detector for recording a pulse in the detector only if annihilation radiation is simultaneously detected in the associated detectors.
