METHOD FOR GAMMA RAY SPECTRAL ANALYSIS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4754325
An apparatus for gamma-ray logging is designed which allows simultaneous density and natural gamma-ray well logging with a single detector. The apparatus has a gamma source, a detector, a skid urging the apparatus against the well wall, and shielding for housing the source and detector. The detector is of the type emitting electrical pulses related to the energy of the incident rays, and electronic pulse height analyzer circuits are provided for separating the detector signals into channels corresponding to different bands in the gamma energy spectrum. Since the natural gamma rays, the scattered rays, and the borehole rays are of different energies, it is possible to obtain information on the borehole diameter and on the surrounding formations.
