An apparatus is designed for neutron-gamma well logging. The gamma detector is surrounded by two shielding means, one of bismuth for shielding against gamma rays from the neutron source and the other of boron for shielding against thermal neutrons scattered from the earth formations. The logging sonde housing is coated with boron to reduce the thermal-neutron gamma rays from iron. (D.L.C.)
