A neutron-capture gamma ray logging system is designed with means for simplifying the gamma pulse height spectrum by eliminating from it the continuum and two of the three peaks for each gamma ray energy. The system has a first detector for detecting neutron-capture gamma rays and a second, annular detector surrounding the first detector for detecting the annihilation radiation to trigger the measurement of the gamma ray energy in the first detector.
