VERIFICATION OF Fe-Zr ALLOY EQUILIBRIUM PHASE DIAGRAMS (in Russian)
Differential thermal, high-temperature dilatometric, and differential dilatometric analyses and the end method were used for determining the phase diagram of Fe-- Zr alloy. The microanalysis of pre-eutectic, eutectic, and post- eutectic alloys were studied during slow cooling and at 1300, 1330, and 1350 deg C annealing temperatures. The results are tabulated for partial phase equilibrium with up to 30% Zr. A new temperature for tri-phase equilibrium gamma -iron- sigma , or the second melting point, was found at 1345 deg C. The eutectic melting point was found at 1320 deg C (instead of 1330 deg ) indicating a 25 deg interval between the eutectic and second melting points. The diffusion of Zr in gamma -phase iron at the eutectic melting point was ~1.0%, however, further studies are required for verification. (R.V.J.)
