DEVELOPMENT OF HIGH-TEMPERATURE STRAIN-GAGE BONDING MATERIALS CURABLE AT LOW TEMPERATURES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4826263
Investigations were conducted to develop a high-temperature strain-gage cement which can be cured at low temperatures. Various compounds were incorporated into a basic formulation consisting of silica, alumina, chromic anhydride, monoaluminum dihydrogen phosphate. and Goulac suspending agent. The most satisfactory additive was yttrium nitrate hexahydrate which yields a composr- tion, B144, with good curing at 350 deg F, excellent electrical behavior to 1600 deg F, and moderate strengths. Data on properties of cements containing other yttrium compounds, as well as zinc and magnesium compounds, are included. (auth)
