CALIBRATION OF STRAIN GAGES AT HIGH TEMPERATURE: SECOND REPORT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4641001
Wire grid, single-filament, and foil (including one cemented to a weldable coupon) strain gages mounted on R235 tubing were tested in tension at 800, 950, and 1100 deg F. Erratic operation and/or failure on test eliminated the weldable, wire grid, and single filament gages for use on R-235 at these temperatures. The other foil gages were somewhat consistent. The ratio of average optical to average ceramic cemented gage reading at room temperature was determined. Strain due to temperature alone had no consistent relation to the results obtained at temperature under tension. The errors on the pull test were large and covered broad bands. (D.C.W.)
