SIGNIFICANCE OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF CYSTINE PREPARATIONS FOR ASSESSMENT OF WHOLE BODY RADIATION HAZARDS. III. CLINICAL STUDY

Journal Article · · Nippon Igaku Hoshasen Gakkai Zasshi (Japan)
OSTI ID:4825296
The bone-marrow function, as indicated by changes in the leukocyte count following the administration of cystine preparations, was studied both in patients treated by deep therapy and in x ray workers. The decrease in the peripheral white blood count in the deep therapy patients was not prevented by the administration of cystine preparations, while in the x-ray workers administration of l00 mg induced hypofunction of the bone marrow. Hematologic examination and the bone-marrow function study utilizing cystine preparations are considered to be important for determining the degree of radiation hazard. (Abstr.
