THE HALF-LIFE OF CARBON-14

Journal Article · · Intern. J. Appl. Radiation and Isotopes
Specific activity measurements on pure samples of C0/sub 2/ containing respectively 45 and 2% C/sup 14/ by atoms, using mass spectrometry and proportional counting, have resulted in a new value of 5780 plus or minus 65 years for the C/sup 14/ half-life. Gas adsorption difficulties have been surmounted by careful gas handling and the introduction of an adsorption test. Counting rate corrections for dead-time losses, end effect, wall effect and discriminator bias have been determined. (auth)
