Effect of the Filter Attached on Detector Window to Improve Sensitivity of the β-ray Coating Thickness Gage (in Japanese)

Journal Article · · Radioisotopes (Tokyo)
The measurable range and sensitivity of the BETA -ray coating thickness gage depend on the BETA energies. Increases in energy widen the range and decrease the sensitivity. Backscattered BETA rays from coated specimens were absorbed partially with an aluminum filter attached to a thin window G-M tube. The filter causes sensitivity increases and reductions in range. A general equation based on Tittle's theory of BETA -ray backscattering was developed to explain the experimental phenomena. The calculated value from the equation coincided well with the experimental results.
