DUST MEASUREMENTS USING MEMBRANE FILTERS CONTAINING RADIOACTIVE NICKEL (in Czech)

An acetone solution of the red nickel salt of salicylaldehyde salicyl-hydrazone labelled with Ni/sup 63/ was added to colloid solutions from which suitable membrane filters were prepared. The filters had an approximate activity of 0.05 mu c/cm/sup 2/. They were used for retaining various types of industrial dusts and aerosols in laboratory experiments and in field work. The concentrations in the samples were estimated by measuring the attenuation by the trapped dust of the soft betas from Ni/sup 63/. The lower range of sensitivity of the method was 0.2 mg/cm/sup 2/ and the range of practical application 0.2 to 2.0 mg/cm/sup 2/. Recommendations are made on methods and apparatus for rapid and automatic determination of concentrations. (auth)
