INVESTIGATION OF LARGE IONIZATION BURSTS PRODUCED BY COSMIC RAY PARTICLES AT SEA LEVEL (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zhur. Eksptl'. i Teoret. Fiz.
OSTI ID:4822642

An arrangement consisting of 128 ionization chambers possessing a total area of 10 m/sup 2/ was employed to study ionization bursts equivalent to the transversal of 1000 or more relativistic particles through the chambers. The power exponent of the integral spectrum of bursts recorded by the large area arrangement is gamma = 1.71 plus or minus 0.04. For separate particles the spectrum exponent is gamma = 1.96 plus or minus 0.03. The causes of this discrepancy and the nature of the large ionization bursts are discussed. (auth)
