LARGE IONIZATION BURSTS AND THE SPECTRUM OF NUCLEAR-ACTIVE PARTICLES AT MOUNTAIN HEIGHTS (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Eksperim. i Teor. Fiz.

Large ionization bursts were studied with an arrangement covering an area of 10m/sup 2/ and containing 192 ionization chambers. An analysis of the data obtained shows that a significant part of the large ionization bursts are due to several nuclear-active particles simultaneously striking the apparatus. Simultaneous incidence of the particles is the reason that for bursts recorded over an area of 10 m/sup 2/ the power exponent of the integral burst spectrum is gamma = 1.38 plus or minus 0.03, whereas the exponent of the burst spectrum for separate particles is gamma = 1.92 plus or minus 0.05.
