IMPROVEMENTS IN HEAT EXCHANGERS
A boiler suitable for a nuclear power plant includes a cylindrical pressure vessel arranged to lie with its axis substantially horizontal. Above the level of the pressure vessel, a vapor liquid separating drum is disposed and pipes are arranged, respectively, to conduct the vapor and liquid mixture from an upper region of the pressure vessel to said separating drum and to conduct liquid from the drum for circulation thereof to a lower region of the pressure vessel. Inside the pressure vessel, heat exchange surfaces are disposed constituted by tubes arranged for internal flow of the heating gas and forming a part of the vapor generating section. At least one other section is further disposed in series with the vapor generating section and formed by tubes arranged for external flow of the heating gas transversely of the tubes. Suitably, the vapor generating section is arranged for natural circulation of the working medium of the boiler with that medium rising upwardly and transversely with respect to the tubes of the vapor generating section. Preferably, a portion of the tube bank, providing vapor generation surfaces and situated adjacent the gas outlet, serves as an economizer. (NPO)
