Integral boiler nuclear reactor (in Danish)

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4313826
A compact integral boiler reactor design is described which incorporates the reactor, the heat exchanger, and its associated vapor-liquid separation equipment within one vessel. A vessel is provided in which a primary coolant continuously circulates absorbing heat generated in the reactor core and given up the heat to a secondary coolant flowing through a multiplicity of tubes located within the same vessel. The interior of the vessel is divided into a riser space, a pressurizer space, a downcomer or heat exchanger space, and a vapor- liquid separating space. Heaters arranged within the pressurizer space vaporize a quantity of the primary coohant and pressurize it to the desired level. The core is positioned in the lower part of the riser space, and the heat generated within the core is removed by the primary coohant which then fhows upwardly through the riser space. From the riser space the primary coolant flows downwardly transferring its heat to the secondary coolant through the tubes in the downcomer space. The secondary coolant may be either vaporized or superheated by this heat transfer. The separating equipment positioned within the vapor-liquid separating space receives the steam-water mixture of secondary coolant from the tubes and then provides separated vapor to be superheated within certain tubes and separated hiquid to be recycled through the remainder of the tubes.
