MELTING POINTS OF INORGANIC FLUORIDES

Journal Article · · Journal of the American Ceramic Society (U.S.)
The melting points of BaF/sub 2,/ CaF/sub 2,/ CeF/sub 3,/ GdF/sub 3,/ KF, LaF/sub 3,/ and YF/sub 3/ are given. was loaded in an argon atmosphere into a graphite crucible. The individual fluorides were taken to 40 to 50 f C above their melting points and stirred before beginning measurements. A series of heating and cooling runs was made, and the temperature-time curves were recorded on a potentiometer recorder. Literature values are also tabulated to show the wide range of melting points in current use. (P.C.H.)
