IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4820872
A gas-cooled, graphite-moderated reactor is designed for reducing the amount of Wigner energy stored in the moderator. In this reactor design, the coolant is caused to flow along the fuel channels and then to backtrack in contact with the graphite walls so that the wall temperature is increased and the Wigner energy is reduced. The backward flow path is defined by a baffle which separates the graphite wall and the fuel element. (D.L.C.)
