A steam-cooled, heavy water-moderated reactor of the pressure tube type is designed with a thin baffle member in each pressure tube dividing the tube interior into an inner major coolant flow channel around the fuel elements and an outer annular channel with a minor fraction of the coolant flow. Water is injected into the annular channel to form a steam-water mixture which reduces heat transfer to the moderator and removes heat from the pressure tube. The reactor utilizes the multi-pass cooling system described in British Patent 897,447. (D.L.C.)
