CHARGING TUBE SYSTEM FOR NUCLEAR REACTORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4820839
The charging tube system is used for charging a group of vertical channels through a single charging hole in the top of the reactor pressure vessel. The charging hole nns provided with a vertical tubular casing which accommodates two concentric tubes that can slide one inside the other in such a manner that each may ireely rotate with respect to the other, but both axially movable as a unit. The lower end of the inner tube protrudes from the outer tabe and is covered by a tubular piece that is screwed into the end of the outer tube and is fixed to the inner tube in such a way that rotation with respect thereto is not possible but axial sliding is; as a consequence, any relative rotation between the tubes causes an axnnal displacement of the tubular piece. The inner tube is provided at its lower end with an extension with semi-annular cross section. At the lower end of this extension a lower charging tube is jointed; this is provided at the upper end with a similar extension to that of the said inner tuhe and has a lower extremity that can be brought in front of each of the exits of the reactor channels of the group. At the lower end of the tubular piece, a linking rod is jointed that has a semi-annular cross section also and is jointed at its lower end to the said lower charging tube in such a way that any axial movement of the tubular piece causes a rotation of the lower tube about its joint. The cross section of the linking rod completes the cross sections of the said two extensions to a whole tube when the lower tube is in a vertical position. (NPO)
