PROGRESS REPORT ON PROCESSING URANIUM ORES , NOVEMBER 16, 1951-JANUARY 15, 1952

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4820692

Final tests are described on ore samples from the Belgian Congo. Leaching, precipitation, and ion exchange testing were continued on ore samples and leach liquors from Radium Hill (South Australia) Temple Mountain, Lukachukai, and Rand. Test work on U recovery from residues remaining after HF production from Utah fluorite was completed. A Climax flowsheet for U recovery was tested, and preliminary results from resin-in-pulp study on a semi-pilot plant scale are presented. Discussions are included concerning the results of tests on the recovery of MnO/sub 2/ from Rand barren solutions, carbonate leaching on Rand ores, systematic studies on elution of U from anion exchange resins, and lyometallurgical studies on pure uranyl sulfate with a variety of organo- phosphate complexing agents.
