PROGRESS REPORT ON PROCESSING URANIUM ORES , SEPTEMBER 16, 1951-NOVEMBER 15, 1951

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4804325
Elution tests of low grade Congo ores with NaCl solutions are described. Results of H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ leaching tests on Radium Hill ores from S. Australia conducted under varying conditions and recovery of U from the liquor as U/sub 3/O/ sub 8/ are reported. Filtration difficulties due to precipitation of titania were alleviated by flotation. Results of roasting previous to leaching are shown. Straight H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/ leaching of Temple Mountain ore was as efficlent as a combination technlque using Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ and H/sub 2/SO/sub 4/. Results of tests of Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ leaching of Rand residues are tabulated. Ion exchange studies on the effect of Co, thiocyanate, and polythionate in Rand liquors and resin life testing studies are described and the results of tests are given. Methods of applying ion exchange to the recovery of U from the Climax plant liquors are described and test results of the various steps, using 2-in. diameter columns, are shown. Lyometallurgical studies with the effect of organo- phosphates on the extraction of U from Chattanooga shales are described. (auth)
