RELATIVISTIC DIFFERENTIAL AND TOTAL K-SHELL PHOTOELECTRIC CROSS-SECTIONS AND PHOTOELECTRON POLARIZATIONS

Journal Article · · Arkiv Fysik
OSTI ID:4820215
Computer determinations of the differential and total photoelectric cross sections. and of the photoelectron polarization as a function of the incident photon polarization, are carried out correct to any order in aZ. A pure Coulomb potential is used, and the radial matrix elements are written in terms of hypergeometric functions of two variables. The series expansions of these functions are theoretically convergent for all energies; but computer, time, and program limitations require an upper energy limit of 800 to 1000 kev for Z = 92, the upper energy limit decreasing with increasing Z. No account is taken of screening effects. (T.F.H.)
