The angular distribution of protons from Al/sup 27/( alpha ,p)Si/sup 30/ reactions at 4 Mev is investigated using a 0.2-mc polonium alpha source and 200- mu thick Ilford C2 plates. To ensure enough proton-track population on the plate, 75 days exposure was given; during the exposure, the plates were kept in a box at about 40% relative humidity, using K/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ as a humidity stabilizer. 7698 protons from ground to ground state transitions and 10330 protons from transitions to the first excited state were counted. Observations were made at 27 deg to 153 deg at 2 deg angular intervals. Observations in each angle were normalized to unit solid angles, such that an isotropic angular distribution is obtained for protons from the ground to ground state transitions, and a symmetrical distribution at 90 deg in cm coordinates with two peaks at about 45 deg and at 135 deg to 140 deg is obtained for protons from the transition to the first excited state. A Legender polynomial was applied to fit the data, but the angular distribution of the transition to first excited state at lower and higher angles differ from the experimental points. (auth)
