EFFECTS OF PROTECTION AGENTS AGAINST RADIATION INJURY ON INJURIES IN NUCLEIC ACID METABOLISM IN THE ORGANS

When MEA (mercaptoethylamine) or AET (aminoethylisothiuronium) was given to mice prior to x irradiation, nucleic acid metabolism in the organs was not injured. However, the grade of protection may be related to the toxicity of these substances. The protective grade in nucleic acid metabolism in the thymus, spleen, and testis was approximately parallel to the effect on lethal rate of mice. In the spleen only, the administration of MEA or AET was effective for protection of nucleic acid metabolism even after irradiation. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2: No. 5, 1961).
