PHYSIOLOGICAL AND PATHO-HISTOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF THE INFLUENCE OF RADIOACTIVE PHOSPHORUS ON VARIOUS ORGANS, ESPECIALLY ON LIVER FUNCTION

The influence of P/sup 32/a on various organs was evaluated by changes in RBC, WBC, hemoglobin, serum protein, protein fraetions, iron and glucose metabolism, and liver function. The disturbance of liver function was proportional to the amount of P3/sup 32/ injected, being slight with 12 mu c/kg, moderate with 60 mu c/kg and very severe with 120 mu c/kg. The effect of P/sup 32/ on serum protein was slight. Histological changes following P/sup 32/ injection were: nuclear degeneration, decrease in PAS-positive substance, iron phagocytosis bv Kuppfer's cells, presence of fine fat granules, and cellular atrophy. The clinical use of Takata's liver function test is recommended to evaluate the effects of P/sup 32/ because the pathological changes caused by P/ sup 32/ corresponded well with the results of Takata's test.
