THE DIAMAGNETISM OF THE VAN ALLEN ZONES AS A POSSIBLE SOURCE OF THE EXTERNAL MAGNETIC FIELD OF THE EARTH

Journal Article · · Acta Geophys. Polon.
OSTI ID:4817824
ABS>Approximate expressions for potential, and intensity of the magnetic field on the earth's surface, derived from the Van Allen zones are given on the assumption of the diamagnetic behavior of their gas. The zones are assumed as single layers magnetized along the lines of force of the geomagnetic field. The contribution to the external field is comparatively so high that the diamagnetic properties of the Van Allen zones must be taken into account in considerations on the origin of the external magnetic field of the earth as well as of the cause of the magnetic storms.
