THE INFLUENCE OF SMALL DOSES OF ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION UPON THE VARIATION OF SHIGELLA FLEXNERI

Journal Article · · J. Microbiol., Epidemiol. Immunobiol. (U.S.S.R.)(English Translation)
OSTI ID:4817588
A high degree of resistance to streptomycin and a somewhat less marked resistance to penicillin developed rapidly in Shigella flexneri exposed to small doses of ultraviolet radiation not affecting the viability of the organisms. The streptomycin-resistant ultraviolet variants of Sh. flexneri were not different from the original strain with regard to their morphological, biochemical, serological and antigenic properties; their virulence, however, was somewhat lower.
