To investigate the relative advantages of bolus versus no bolus, extensive measurements were made of the dose distribution in the superficial layers for single and parallel opposing fields applied to a phantond shaped like a chest wall. The findings indicate that for Co/sup 60/ optimum distributions are obtained using full bolus, while for Cs/sup 137/ bolus should only be used for half of the treatment series. A obtained using Co/sup 60/ in this way than can be achieved with Cs/sup 137/. (P.C.H.)
