Mice of dd strain were exposed to a single whole-body x irradiation of 60, 120, 180, 300, and 600 r. The growth rate became slower as the dose rate was increased. Decrease in the erythrocyte count was manifested by irradiation of 300 r, more severely by irradiation of 600 r. Polychromatophilic erythrocytes were highly susceptible and showed a decreased count when exposed to 120 r. This decrease was more marked at 300 r, and with this dose of irradiation polychromatophilic erythrocytes occasionally disappeared entirely. With a dosage of 600 r they disappeared without exception within 2-7 days after irradiation. The leucocyte count was decreased by an irradiation of even 60 r. The differential leucocyte counts showed a slight decrease in lymphocytes with a relative increase in neutrophils. This tendency was more marked after irradiations of over 300 r. Relatively slight changes were observed in the number of eosinophils and monocytes. (Abstr. Japan Med., 1: No. 15, 196l)
