ELECTRON MICROGRAPHS OF DARKENED ZnS PHOSPHORS

Journal Article · · Ann. Rept. Radiation Center Osaka Prefect.
OSTI ID:4816526
Electron micrographs were made of ZnS phosphor surfaces exposed to light from a Xe lamp in moist air and compared with those of non-darkened phosphors. The ZnS samples investigated included unactivated ZnS and Cuactivated ZnS containing 0.01 and 0.5 wt% Cu. Precipitates were found on surfaces of unactivated ZnS and ZnS containing 0.01 wt% Cu upon darkening; some of the precipitates run parallel to the growih steps. For ZnS containing 0.5 wt% Cu, no remarkable change was found after darkening. The precipitates are probably colloidal Zn. (D.L.C.)
