MOLYBDENUM ALLOY EXTRUSION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. Sixth Interim Technical Engineering Report, February 15, 1962-June 1, 1962
Five full length T shape extrusions of TZM were made from 3200 deg F with a reduction ratio of about 19: 1. High liner pressure in excess of 200,000 psi at an initial stem speed of 100 inches per minute was required to accomplish the extrusions within reasonable run-out of dimensions. One full length extrusion was within size requirements. Surface quality of full length extrusions was fair being characterized by localized glass or die coating rub-in and striations. The extrusions were accomplished with zirconia coated dies applied by Source D using the oxyacetylene flame-spray process with solid-rod feed. Die performance was improved by more careful application of the coating followed by a thorough inspection with suitable gages. (auth)
