The giant resonance in C/sup 12/, Al/sup 27/, and Ca/sup 40/ is by resonant scattering of bremsstrahlung gamma rays. The angular distributions of the scattered photons are dipolar. The results are compared with ( gamma ) and ( gamma ,p) cross sections and absorption cross sections. (auth)
