APPARATUS TO INJECT PLASMA INTO A THERMONUCLEAR REACTOR

In an evacuated space, a radially inhomogeneous, axially symmetrical magnetic field having axially spaced inten sified reflector field regions is increased with time; during this time, electrically charged particles are introduced at a plane perpendicular to the axis between said reflector field regions. During this time interval, the plasma is heated non-adiabatically. The energy can be increased further in an adiabatic way in the same space by increasing the magnetic field and making it radially homogeneous or by injecting the plasma into an adjacent containment field of the pyrotron type.
