OSTI ID:4812429
A discussion is given of the progress made in the assessment of the fog- cooled concept toward determining the feasibility and the potentiality of success for eventually replacing the CANDU type reactor. The various flow and heat transfer regimes are described which are possible in a uniformly heated pipe with water flowing in and steam flowing out. The main advantages of the concept are listed. The economic study of the concept is summarized in terms of pressure tube system, fuel, reactor core, power plant cycle, parametric study, reference code, cost comparison with CANDU, potentials for future development, areas of doubt, and the Chalk River study.
