POLARIZATION OF LOW ENERGY COSMIC RAY MUONS AT SEA-LEVEL (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zhur. Eksptl'. i Teoret. Fiz.

The degree of polarization of 0.2- to 1.55-Bev positive muons is measured at sea level. Within this energy range the degree of polarization increases by a factor of 1.50 plus or minus 0.19, corresponding to an increase of the slope of the pion energy spectrum in an energy region of the order of several Bev. A value K/sup +/ pi /sup +/ =0.22 plus or minus 0.18 for the ratio between K+ and pi + mesons produced in the atmosphere is obtained by estimating the possible contribution of K/sub mu 2/-decay to muon production.
