A core construction for graphite-moderated, gas-cooled reactors is designed which eliminates transverse displacements between the bottom layer of bricks and the supporting base plate and the need for elastic restraints. The graphite bricks are formed with their end faces inclined to the horizontal and arranged so that adjacent pairs form a wedge shape at their upper ends and a Vshaped recess at their lower ends or vice versa. Pins are provided between the bricks to form channels and to permit pivotal movements between the bricks. The core is supported on tiles with V-shaped recesses. (D.L.C.)
