IMPROVEMENTS RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTORS
The moderator structure of a reactor consisting of a plurality of adjacent columns, each provided in its center with a vertical reactor channel, is described. Each column is fixed at its bottom on the platform constituting the support. Each column consists of static and dynamic columns alternately disposed so that four dynamic columns surround one siatic column and vice versa. Each of the static columns consists of a series of blocks of square section each having a central hole for constituting the reactor channel. These blocks are piled one above another, while each block of a dynamic column is spaced in vertical direction from a succeeding block by four wedge shaped members sliding on correspondingly inclined end faces of the blocks to be spaced. Each of these wedge shaped members abuts wfth a vertical face of it against lateral faces of blocks of an adjacent static column and is able to slide along this side face. Succeedfng blocks of a dynamic column are interconnected with tubular pieces to ensure the continuity of the reactor channel. The elements of the moderator structure are restrained by horizontal belts at levels at which the wedge shaped members are disposed. (NPO)
