Journal Article · · Nature
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1038/193892a0· OSTI ID:4808670
Measurements were made on the radioactivity of the enviroment of Japan since October 196l, after the recent Soviet resumption of nuclear bomb tests. The maximum I/sup 131/ concentration in air was 2.07 mu mu c/m/sup 3/ on Nov. 6, but it dropped to less than 0.2 mu mu c/m/sup 3/ in Dec. Results of analysis of lungs from cattle and man for I/sup 131/ are tabulated. Spinach and milk analyses show that the major source of I/sup 131/ contamination of the human body is leafy vegetables. Thyroid and urine analysis results are summarized. (D.L.C.)
