A concentric tubular fuel element for organic moderated reactors is designed which gives relatively uniform heat generation and temperature distribution. The fuel element comprises a plurality of spaced concentric fuel tubes, each having fins twisted into spirals in opposite directions to provide annular coolant channels. Inner and outer tubes are provided to hold the assembly together, and control rods may be inserted into the central region. Dimensional data are given for a 45.5 Mw(t) terphenyl-cooled reactor using fuel elements of this type. (D.L.C.)
