A multicharged ion source with prolate pulses and magnetic beam separation is descrlbed. Beams of N/sup 4+/ (l.4 ma), N/sup 3+/ (1.5 ma), and N/ sup 2+/ (2 ma) are accelerated to 400 kev and focused on a 15-mm spot. (tr-auth)
