MOLYBDENUM ALLOY EXTRUSION DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM. Fourth Interim Technical Engineering Report, August 15, 1961-December 15, 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4806939

The extrudability of hot-work forged TZM was evaluated by the extrusion of solid rounds at a reduction ratio of 18:1 at 2300 to 2700 deg F. The extrusions were characterized primarily by poor surface quality and by little change in hardness from that of the original billet. T shaped extrusion dies were coated with zirconia by plasma-arc spraying at seven different sources. T shaped extrusions of TZM generally exhibited an lncrease in hardness from that of the original billet except in mid-extrusion. (auth)
