FAST-NEUTRON CAPTURE CROSS SECTION OF CHROMIUM (in Russian)

The dependence of the radiative capture cross section of the natural isotopic mixture of Cr on energy was determined by raeans of the instantaneous gamma -radiation, using the T(p,n) reaction taking place in a Van de Graaff accelerator target as the neutron source. Details of the measurement were described previously (Second Conference on Low-Energy Nuclear Physics, 1960). The experimental error of the measurements did not exceed 15% while the neutron energy dispersion amounted to plus or minus 20 kev. Results showed that in the 50 to 1000-kev range the radiative capture cross section of Cr is only slightly dependent on the energy; this may be due to the effect of neutrons having large orbital momentums, the increase of the radiation width, and direct interaction.
