CORROSION INVESTIGATION OF HyMu-80 AND INOR-8 UNDER HYDROFLUORINATION CONDITIONS DURING DISSOLUTION OF ZIRCALOY-2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4805034

An experiment was run to determine the durability of HyMu-80 along with INOR-8, under hydrofiuorinator conditions, in a molten salt bath of NaF- LiF- BeF/ sub 2/ at 650 deg C while Zircaloy-2 was being dissolved. The only visible evidence of attack was on those specimens extending through the liquid-vapor interface. These samples were raised with the interface as the zircaloy-2 was added. ln this area, there was severe necking-down of all specimens. In general, the HyMu-80 specimens were as durable as the INOR-8 pieces or even more durable. (M.C.G.)
