CORROSION RESISTANCE OF NICKEL-BASE ALLOYS IN A NaF-LiF-BeF$sub 2$-ZrF$sub 4$- MIXTURE UNDER HYDROFLUORINATOR CONDITIONS AT 500 C, WITH AND WITHOUT ZIRCALOY-2 DISSOLVING. PART II

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4651995

The dissolution rate of Zircaloy-2 in a salt mixture of initial composition 25 mole% LiF--37 mole% NaF--8.5 mole% BeF/sub 2/--29 mole% ZrF/sub 4/ was measured at 500 deg C under hydrofluorinator conditions. The corrosion of INOR-8, HyMu-80, Alloy 2 (85Ni-- 10Mo--5Fe), 95Ni-- 5Fe, 99Ni-- 1Al, and INCO-61 by this salt under the same conditions, with and without Zircaloy-2 dissolution, was also studied. The results show that INOR-8, HyMu-80, or Alloy 2 could be used as construction materials, while the other alloys are considerably less resistant. Corrosion is reduced in the presence of dissolving Zircaloy, except for 95Ni--5Fe. (D.L.C.)
