REPORT OF OBSERVATIONS ON NUTRITION: RADIATION AND STERILIZATION OF FOODS FOR DEPARTMENTS OF PHARMACOLOGY AND PATHOLOGY, MEDICAL COLLEGE OF VIRGINIA, RICHMOND, VIRGINIA

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4802915
The diet fed to the dogs in this study included irradiated green beans and fruit compote. There was no evidence noted from the review of the results that the consumption of irradiated green beans or fruit compote, by dogs, produced any histopathologic changes that could be attributed to the specific food or level of irradiation. Lymphocytic thyroiditis, as seen in dogs fed irradiated foods at Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Station, was evident in one green bean control female. Other thyroid changes were noted in dogs fed this diet and consisted of colloid degeneration and hyperplasia in a 1X male and female and a 2X female. (auth)
