REPORT OF OBSERVATIONS ON NUTRITION: RADIATION AND STERILIZATION OF FOODS FOR UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS, COLLEGE OF VETERINARY MEDICINE, URBANA, ILLINOIS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4802914
BS>The diets fed to the dogs included irradiated beef or flour. There was no evidence noted that the consumption of irradiated beef or flour, by dogs, produced histopathologic changes that could be attributed to the specific food or level of irradiation. A thyroiditis, characterized by infiltration of the gland by lymphoid cells was an outstanding finding. This condition, previously reported as lymphocytic thyroiditis, was present in one-half of the females fed beef (one in each feeding group), and all males fed flour (two in each feeding group).
