IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO METHODS OF OPERATING GAS COOLED NUCLEAR REACTORS

A method is given for operating a gas-cooled reactor so that short-lived fission products are forced from leakig fuel elements into the coolant stream for detection with a fuel element leak detector apparatus. In the method, the pressure is reduced in the coolant circuit at low power, and the reactor is scanned with the apparatus. An example of the method is given for a CO/sub 2/- cooled reactor normally operated at 90 psig and 200 Mw. (D.L.C.)
