THE COULOMBIC EXCITATION OF THE 532 kev LEVEL IN Er$sup 16$$sup 7$ (in Russian)
An enriched target of Er/sup 167/ was bombarded with 50-Mev N/sup 14/ ions. The gamma quanta emitted as a result of coulombic excitation were counted in coincidence with the inelastically scattered N/sup 14/ ions in order to increase the sensitivity of the measurements. The gamma quanta were recorded on a scintillation spectrometer, and the inelastically scattered N/sup 14/ ions were counted by a silica p-n semiconductor. A 532 kev gamma line, which discharges directly to the ground state, was found in Er/sup 167/. The value of B(E2) for the excitation of the 532-kev level was found to be 0.042 e/ sup 2/ 10/sup -48/cm/sup 4/. If the spin is equal to 3/2 for this level, the lifetime of this excited state is 2.3 x 10/sup -11/ sec. This lifetime is a factor of 12 less than the value calculated by the formula of Weiskopf. In the decay of Tm/sup 167/, the 532-kev gamma line goes directly to the gound state of Er/sup 167/. (TTT)
